You’re not a perfect parent.

That much is true.
You shout sometimes, you can be short-tempered and impatient.
You often care too much about the unimportant things, like cleaning and random social-media posts which can grab your much-needed attention elsewhere.
You’re not a perfect parent, that much is true.
Perfect parents don’t exist.

But you are the only person in this world who can love your child exactly the way you do.
You see them, you know them, you made them.
Your connection is unique, your bond is in unbreakable.
You would lay down in the road if it meant a better life for those kids.
You eat, breathe and sleep them and no matter how distracted you get or how short your fuse can be, they are loved.
And guess what, they know it.
Because your love is imprinted into every little cell in their bodies.
It came directly from your body and it goes so much deeper than the troubles of the day.

It’s intrinsic, built in, life-lasting.
It’s real, raw, scientific, spiritual, genetic, unconditional, all-consuming, die-for-you parental love.

So, forget how you failed as a parent today my friend.
No-one got it just right.

End the night with a cuddle full of your heart and soul and all your foibles will be forgotten.

Because that’s how love works. -Donna Ashworth, To The Women: words to live by
