Darkness and light | Naam Horev
When we were little we were afraid of the darkness.
He was in charge of demons, spirits, witches, and a not a bad chance to step on a Lego cube that we left thrown on our childhood carpet.
We asked that they leave us a light at the end of the hall, that we can see, and be ready for any monster that won't come
And here, as we get older -
We begin to love the darkness, and fear the light.
We'd rather not see.
Darkness becomes a security net, an invincible armor, a perfect way to take off the switch on everything we don't want to confront.
So we overthrow traumatic memories, old scars, unrequited loves. Closing them in a sealed box and uploading to Boydam.
We close our eyes so as not to cope.
Not to deal with everything we hate so much about ourselves.
Our insecurities. Our failures and mistakes.
The darkness becomes us an eternal shelter where we reset everything that scares us.
We cover our faces with sunglasses so as not to see, and not to be seen. We only make love under the heavy blankets of the shadow. We close our eyes tightly when we emit a confession.
Slowly - slowly we understand how hard it is to be exposed to the blind light,
To look in the eyes, to love with open windows, to face everything that the darkness blurs with great talent.
And then, if we have luck and patience, there comes a moment in life when we get used to the light.
The eyes no longer shrink in front of the sun.
We dare to look at ourselves with our eyes open -
With all the scars, and scratches, and quirks, and excess fat and excess pain we carry on us.
Slowly - slowly we are able to look towards ourselves, and more than that, let others also see us in the light, like this, as we are.
This is a hard moment.
This is an amazing moment.
This is a moment worth all the tears we dropped in the blinding light.
When we were kids we were afraid of the dark.
No one told us that the real fear begins - especially when the light turns on. - Noam Horev, A draft of Happiness
