The Promised Land was delayed forty years for reasons that even G*d couldn’t foresee - and the promise has yet to be fulfilled in its entirety. Rather than pretending we can control our acts in an unknown future, our Jewish tradition suggests that we do best to do our best each day as it comes, and restrain ourselves from speaking words of promise that may turn out empty. Better not to vow than not to fulfill. - Rabbi Ariel
