"a woman, the first of her family, left a war torn country with no money, only a two year old and nyquil (for the long nights) and a boat with a captain, spending too many nights in the pacific, dreaming of a place where she could become the woman she knew she could be, nearly giving up in a raging storm on the 5th day, when the food ran out and the water filled up to her ankles, id like to think she sang to herself in this instant, humming away the waves, singing her favorite song until she miraculously reached land in the morning, i like thinking that because that's how i get through things these days, but that's what i get for having a woman, a female power, and a mother all at once in my life who is that impenetrable." - Mai
