Super Fly
I was the safety monitor - looking sharp in my safety gear and baggy small-size overalls. My pants legs still dragged on the ground even after some trimming, and I got some good comments and a yummy snicker bar. I've made the big time now. I sure do look funny in my large size reflective jacket. People are now talking about the motivator becoming fear more than love, and although it has not made too big an impact on me, I can see how they feel. Still, this kind of tough love is what will keep us in business. A difficult transition, but the outcome should be worth it.
I didn't do much for St. Pat's day - just waiting for the drunken hordes to pull out my fence and poop in my yard. The usual festivites (r-mates). I made the sacrifice to come to Portland and subject myself to motherly love for a day. Happy B-day momma. I am looking forward to my Canada trip, but a little apprehensive about a car-trip with mom and grandma. I may have to drive for my own safety.
Mrs. Rachel Lane is now an international super fly.
Fiona, I miss ya!

Crazy Times for the Paper Crew
Finally I have been recognized as the DAF assistant superintendant. I've been hard at work prepping for my first big project - TMO is keeping me busy covering all the bases, while still keeping things moving on Parcview. Lots of juggling to keep up the progress on multiple fronts. I feel like I'm in charge of janitorial with all the clean-up details I've been arranging.
Emily took off this week, and I was craving her belly all week - I will get my fix on the weekend.
Next to the DAF we have our new dry strength storage - hambyville/lambyville is taking off. Our efforts to perfect our think tank has been sidetracked by jealousy over our monitors - can't we all just get along? We're going to end up running from room to room just to keep track of our own systems. What a waste of time.
I have busy weekend duties again, with yard work, a new tenant and babysitting mom. Being on call for the weekend, my only excitement was an italian dinner courtesy of the OSU faculty - unfortunately I was not feeling well, so I really did not get to enjoy it. On sunday Adam & I went to cascadia park - nice drive, but the walk was nothing special. Apparently I am a popular partner with my friends - I'm the #1 marriage option, under the name "Rachel Lane". My name is Rachel, pleased to meet you. TMO countdown is running - T-minus four weeks. Lots more to do to make this run smoothly.
Changes at the mill are getting to be pretty unfortunate - first we lost our foodservice of fifty years, then we lost our free soda-pop, and now are candy is gone - even muffins and bagels are gone. You can have my cookies when you pry them from my cold, dead hands.

Week of Work and Puppy Love
I never thought I smelled all that bad after working at the mill, but a coworker made a comment that made me think about the smells of the paper mill... apparently my perfume is foul condensate - and I thought I smelled so good! Emily has been giving me a long face, and making a mess. We can't really blame her - a doggie can only wait so long. Now we have a lifetime supply of pet stain remover.
The career fair was fun, plenty of visitors and stories to share with them. I even had a picture taken, which reminded me of the last time I visited the career fair. Good times. It is official - Grandma is going to be coming to America in May!
Two projects that I have been getting some help with - DS and DAF. DS is making progress, but we had some major trouble with DAF - serious frustration, but it seems to have subsided for now. Commander has it under control, I guess.
Weather and schedule have not been favorable for doggie park - Sunday will be the big play day. Work was a killer. My TMO project and parcview are keeping me busy, and I am making some progress.
Last weekend I went to a string concert (Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms) on Saturday while I was on call. Mostly hanging around the house - with a few visitors. I was assigned a helper for TMO who has a large amount of experience to share - it is wonderful to pick the brain of true experts.
I'm physically worn out from all the duties at work, combined with doggy duties - she sure does keep me going.
I saw Pink Martini on Thursday, and spent too much time watching the pledge drive. Next time I will have to see them live - that is my favorite.
Looks like the house will be a little bit more busy soon - my secret tenant is moving in soon. It will be nice to have another friendly face to come home to - and to keep an eye on the place. I think we will get along well, and now I can stop worrying about placing ads.

I am a tree! Jump BoringFish
I had the unusual experience of detecting a severe wardrobe malfunction at work. Parts of my coworker were revealed to me that I had never expected to see, but I handled it as well as could be expected.
Lots of quality time with Emily in the doggie park. She never seems satisfied, but I try to make sure she gets ample time to run free and poop.
I had the misfortune to be introduced to a very confused doggy at the park, as well. Apparently he thought that I was a tree (or perhaps a fire hydrant), and I was the recipient of a rather stinky spray of dog urine. Eww.

Emily's Complaint
Friday night I went to a play after work with Adam, and got my dose of drama for the weekend. I went to the University Theater presentation of Antigone - it was dramatic and intense. Not one of my favorite plays, unfortunately. We went to Intaba's to enjoy their 100% recycled building. The dinner was all natural local food, and a nice departure from all the pretentious eateries around here.
Saturday I was recovering from my long week of work, sleeping, eating and cleaning. How domestic. I did take a short break after dinner to sing a karaoke concert, after inspiration from Andy and Sammi and Wing.
Sunday I helped my roommate with her "excellently black" hair, and then took me out to the indian buffet. Dinner was with Todd in Portland - yummy thai food like they don't have in Corvallis. It was good to see my mom, and emily, too.
Monday I visited with mom and emily. Poor doggie stranded in Corvallis all by herself.
Tuesday Dave started his new job, being teased at the office. My tuesday night was spent at the new Engr building at OSU - nice building, but strange to be in new facilities at my old school. Lots of eager beaver engineers. Later I poked my head in at the Debussy string quartet concert (from France) at the hall. They were very good, but I had to excuse myself to care for the lonely puppy.
Wednesday was a hectic day for me. Representing W at OSU was a busy, tiring day, but there was a lot of potential in the crowd. It was funny to see old classmates, and where they are now (married). My soy team companions have all tied the knot. Just a little odd to think about. Emily is my new significant other - we spent the night out walking, and now she is sleeping with her nose by my thigh. Time to share the bed, Emily, move over. "Grrr"

Roto-Rooter Pilot Lady of the Year
This week has been going by very fast. I hope I don't make you fall asleep with the following boring details of my work life. The week started with a DAF lockbox fiasco. Scary. Someone could have been seriously injured, and probably some heads would roll as well. On wednesday I was in Springfield - lady with many hats - I was an astronomer, pilot, lime mud person, clay scientist, parcview software person and passionate employee. Dave explained more about the art of giving on V-day, and the importance of romance. I fielded some questions about ladies' desires for flowers and jewelry that seem to be so common. Thursday came as a surprise - TMO meeting took the whole day, with contractors filling in the gaps. I had my chemist hat on. I found out that we are going to be having a new engineer - another process person, this time with experience. I also got to meet face to face with my contractor for the first time today - caught him vactoring a containment which will be the location of our new bulk tank for dry strength chemical. During TMO meeting some people were surprised to find me in charge of vactoring - I gained the title of Roto-Rooter Lady of the Year for my role in planning the vactoring work during TMO (and they reminded me that I am still Horace's grunt). There was a nice surprise at the end of the day, at least - an invitation to the Beaver basketball game versus the Cougars. Go Beavs! We won the game, and it was great to see my Beavers do so well. Adam had a presentation, and it seems to have gone well - all that hard work finally paying off. Congrats. Friday(the weekend) started with a bad note as someone at work was injured and was sent to the hospital for treatment. It could have been worst but he is doing alright now and is back on his job on light dutie.

A poem
From Todd:
Some Fill With Each Good Rain, a poem by Hafiz
There are different wells within your heart.
Some fill with each good rain,
Others are far too deep for that.
In one well
You have just a few precious cups of water,
That "love" is literally something of yourself,
It can grow as slow as a diamond
If it is lost.
Your love
Should never be offered to the mouth of a
Stranger,
Only to someone
Who has the valor and daring
To cut pieces of their soul off with a knife
Then weave them into a blanket
To protect you
There are different wells within us.
Some fill with each good rain,
Others are far, far too deep
For that.

Valentine's Day Musings
Valentine's Day is here! Wishing you all a happy V-Day! Work was fun today, lots of talk about v day, and flowers, and chocolate - and love. H taught me an important lesson about the importance of giving flowers to your wife, regardless of expense and practicality (seriously). I think I can see why. Free holiday food and flowers make me smile. No flowers, no smile.
My machine tender was nice and in return I gave him some yummy chocolates. I gave him some ribbing about following Horace's golden rule of romance - I wouldn't want him to miss work tomorrow.
My grandma really made my day - we got to talk today about her desire to see me in a wedding dress in the near future. I tried to explain to her that I am not in that big a hurry to get hitched - I'm not as old as she thinks. She also urged me to lower my standards a little, and not be so choosy. Is it so wrong to look for a normal guy among the billions of men in the world? Normal, of course, is in the eye of the beholder...
In April I may have the pleasure of welcoming grandma to North America - time for a mail order groom? Will she bring her shotgun?
Tonight is lobsterfeast - we were cooking up some lobster tails as a treat for ourselves, and enjoying a quiet evening at home. Tomorrow looks like a busy day - headed back to Springfield, and way too much to do.

Dessert, Almond-flavored pudding with mixed fruit

皮蛋瘦肉粥, Jook Round 2.
A candid photo! Blogging was difficult! Invisible blogging censors biting my ears!Century Egg was what I have been eating since Saturday. Mom put 3 eggs in the cilantro soup with the fish meat. Then, on Sunday, Wing put 3 eggs in 皮蛋瘦肉粥. Yummy.
Week 8 - the week of the fart. Maybe the last two weeks of stuffing my face have caught up with me in the end. Last night I had Chinese Valentine's dinner. Tomorrow I will have a valentine's lunch, and a double valentine's day dinner. For the work of the week, I will resume dealing with the clay fiasco, DAF fines tank growth spurt, TMO vactoring, and lime mud soda tests.
Apparently the hundred year old egg creates pre-aged farts - they smell like they have been ripening for at least ninety years. I need to go get a breath of fresh air.

A week in the life of DAF operator #1
Week 7 at work was pretty frustrating.... running all over the place, but not getting much done. TMO is a big focus, along with Parcview - I've been assigned a mentee, and she has a lot to learn here. On top of that, I spent two long days in Springfield, enjoying their southern hospitality.
Tree is gone. Thank goodness - no details, but I am glad to be rid of it. Too bad my neighbors have so much difficulty in operating a telephone.
Some funny things.. on the lighter side. One, Wing has started blogging - and she is very ambitious, starting three simultaneously. Readers go support her! The link is on the right at the top of the page (or at least 2 of 3).
A comment at work... a coworker asked me in a public place if I was married - how embarrassing! This is not the first time - it seems to be a regular question, and comes up at least twice a year. The other common question - have you got a house yet? At least I can put a stop to that one.
Another coworker asked me if I am seeing anyone yet. He heard the other comment about me not being married, and couldn't resist. I told him frankly that I would not be sharing my marital status at work. Keep them guessing...
Seems any time I am seen in public with a male, it is assumed that he is my husband. How odd.
Tuesday night I had dinner with Jennie and spent time with Scott. OH wait... the other way around. Also, Richard called from NC and I missed a chance to chat - sorry!
Wednesday evening was Colleen's birthday - a whole group of us went out to dinner. Hadn't seen the crew for six months or more, so it was good to catch up with them. Gretchen and I did some female bonding, in spite of my reluctance.
On thursday, I visited a coworker from NB, and we did some stargazing - I saw iridium flare, mars, saturn, orion's belt, orion nebula and many other galaxies and clusters. He was impressed with my rudimentary knowledge of astronomy.
Friday, I officially became "#1 DAF operator". I would have prefered "#1 DAF commander", but that one was taken. It was movie night, too, and we just lounged around the house and enjoyed our Netflix evening.
Saturday the workcrew came to work on the floor out back - momma did the usual cooking and cleaning, bless her heart. I also had a chance to briefly visit with Emily and tickle her tummy. Mom's cilantro soup hit the spot. As they left, I picked up some inspiration from my mother and got started on cleaning and laundry projects. Karaoke with wing & Adam.
Friends and family, please enlighten me and let me know how I might improve my communication skills. That's seemed to be my shortcoming.
Sunday I resumed my cleaning and organizing project. I was still feeling a bit low all day, having trouble getting over my blues. The fifteenth day of the new year is here already, and I have barely chatted with Grandma at all. Chinese Valentine's day, and I'm feeling lonely. A phone call from Dave at the top of Warner Canyon couldn't even cheer me up (thanks for trying, though).

Burned out!
This past week was very frustrating in my personal and professional life(wk 6)... that means I am having a very bad week! To make it even worse, I am on duty for the weekend.
In return, I used food to compensate for my very low EQ, so.. I am doing swell in expansion! Wednesday night (winter sausage sticky rice * cakes: raddish, rice and chestnut) Yum! Friday afternoon was some birthday lunch for a co-worker: yummy spinach salad. Saturday dinner for common birthday - see pic below... and hotpot again tonight to clean out all the leftovers.
Adam & I went to a story telling event Friday night, I was all sad anyway, so it was pretty good to get the sadness out of my system.
Got some stuff done with the car work during the week-spendy! Spent sometime with the Kitty: Mr. Bill. One cat, but it looked like about 12 judging from the litter box.
Tree in the neighbor's backyard was another huge heartburn that made my week more difficult to get by-- won't get in details...you can ask me though. Saga will continue next week with frustrating neighbors, insurance people and chainsaws.
Willamette Pass for Dave on Sunday ... mountains definitely are his playgrounds this winter. He is trying to go to ALL ski resorts in OR in the season! (#7 and 8 next weekend)
BoringFish went hiking today with A. See pic later. It was a nice ending to my bad week... and I anticipated that the work week 6 would NOT be much better. Traveling to SP will become my routine; let's just wait and see what will come out of it.
Adios
