Did you watch the Academy Awards? Booooooring. The highlight of the evening was seeing Ruby Yang win for her short subject documentary, The Blood of Yingzhou District, about a community orphans in China who have lost their parents to AIDS. It's probably one of the most depressing films I've ever seen, but it's an amazing film and absolutely deserves the award. That said, I was suprised that it actually won. Other than that, it was another sorry night for Asians scraping at the Academy for some recognition. There was Rinko Kikuchi pretty much resigned to that fact that Jennifer Hudson owned the Best Supporting Actress trophy. You had Ken Watanabe presenting an award. You had some Asians dressed up in silly costumes for Curse of the Golden Flower. And there was Mako included in the annual tribute montage for those who passed. Oh, and on the red carpet, Al Gore joked to Ryan Seacrest that he'd like himself to be played by William Hung in the movie about his life. Ugh, the name that will not go away.
What probably sucked the most was how little recognition Infernal Affairs received for being the original source material for The Departed, which won several Oscars including Best Picture. Martin Scorsese, ever the director's director, did acknowledge Andrew Lau ("Andrew Law," I think he called him) in his acceptance speech for Best Director. But when it won for Best Adapted Screenplay, the announcer said The Departed was adapted from a Japanese film. Completely wrong. What a slap in the face. The guys who write the copy couldn't do even the basic freaking level of research? I guess all Asians really are alike to them. And when it won for Best Picture, producer Graham King made absolutely no mention of Infernal Affairs at all. You've got the top spot of the evening and you can't throw a bone to the movie that made your win possible? That's disrespect.

dishes: oh sweet hevens! men we suck at this i know... but good God you can't let them pile up! its GROSS! it smells like cat piss! that aint right! look no one likes to do the dishes right when they are done eating. or when your tired and just got off work (note to women who might be reading this). but don't leave them in the sink for a month to dry and get nasty. let them soak in water (for a few hours) so when its time to clean they arn't crusty and destroyed. do your dishes while the commercial is on. or when your waiting for your microwaved stew. or while your clothes are in the dryer... but get them done! and put away! sheesh. This will help. instead of the mill-second it takes to leave your dishes in the sink. take 10 seconds and squirt some soap on a srubby and add water, scrub, rinse, and turn upside-down on a towl. and walk away... (here is a tip: keep two of each dish (pack the rest) and a few extra utensils, this will force you to clean when you need to use them. and help you form/break habits you had in the past - but have more when you have company)
bathrooms: Your bathroom must be clean too, others can judge how a kitchen is by the condition of your bathroom and vise-versa. DON'T leave shavings in the sink! and dried toothpast? how? ... put the toile- paper on the roll, not on the back of the toilet. that takes a mill-a-second while your using it! as far as the toilet seat... Personally, i think it should be UP all the time, and when a girl needs it She puts it down and back up when finished (this will stop all the imbarassing "spots" on the seat). or the compromise is close it all the way all the time. OR, men ... choose your battles. the little stuff really makes the women happy, we are not bothered by that simple stuff (a little dig on you girls). a huge tip: GET A TRASH CAN.

First Nation activists to begin 3,000 mile journey to Weyerhaeuser headquarters to protest logging in Grassy Narrow, Ont.

On Friday, Feb. 23, community members from the Grassy Narrows First Nation will begin a journey from their traditional territory in Northwest Ontario to the headquarters of logging giant Weyerhaeuser in Federal Way, Wash. Despite years of community opposition, Weyerhaeuser continues to produce and sell building materials made from wood clear-cut and taken without community consent from Grassy Narrows land.
The "Road to Seattle" tour will feature presentations from community members and organizing workshops hosted by activists working locally and nationally to defend forests and promote Indigenous rights. Stops on the tour include Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria before culminating in Washington state.
The tour is being organized by U.S.-based NGO Rainforest Action Network (RAN) and local environmental and human rights organizations and includes events coordinated with recording artists Propagandhi. As the tour concludes, tour members plan to demand that Weyerhaeuser CEO Steve Rogel develop an exit strategy for his company to leave Grassy Narrows and stop marketing homes made with wood clear-cut from Grassy Narrows as "Built Green".
In January, Grassy Narrows leaders declared a moratorium on all industrial activity on their territory without their consent. The community also rebuked plans to increase clear-cut logging. The community has maintained the longest running Indigenous logging blockade in Canadian history, which is now in its fifth year.
"We have been seeking for many years a constructive solution to this untenable situation, but the response has always been to talk and log. We cannot sit back and watch the demise of our way of life, which disappears more every time more cutting areas are extended to Abitibi and Weyerhaeuser," said Grassy Narrows Council Chief Simon Fobister.
"Building American suburbs from Canadian clear-cuts is an unethical business model," said David Sone, Old Growth campaigner at the Rainforest Action Network. "Unlike its competitors, Weyerhaeuser clings to outdated practices that ignore the cultural and environmental value of the Boreal Forest. As CEO, Steve Rogel should promote stronger social responsibility at Weyerhaeuser beginning with an exit strategy from Grassy Narrows."

CNY fair & the start of week 7
CNY cultural fair was so-so & PandaE's lunch was crappy. I like that J and I were not seperated but we got assigned to be on duty at the not-so-cool booth. We were definitely mahjong overloaded! Sunday was my recovering day with another round of chemistry and eating. Mama prepared a feast for the CNY! I was much satisfied! SJR will be having 盆菜 on 03.03.07; should be fun! Still need to see when I can make lobakgo with J!
I had a VERY unpleasant dream last night and left me quite shaken. Hope my week 7 at work will go smoothly.What is 夢? Anyway, Buddy Mosquito, you should read the link.
The final plan came in last night, no NV trip or any Wongs visit in Feb. There is still rumor about visitor in May.
Birdie shared that she went to the speed dating in Ptld on last Thursday and now she got a date for V's-day! Interesting,(S & J, will you consider?)! On the other hand, Perry dropped the bomb and shared that the marital bliss is not so merry after all, I am worry about him and he reminded me to think about flower and card, I mean at the receiving end. That's a long story.

Correspondences from old friends: I heard from Fiona and several APM folks. I talked to Horace and he is doing great. I am grateful that he is still active and caring in my professional life. I think I will call him more often because he is my booster shot at work. His success as a happy papermaker inspires me, another reason for cheers!
I may go to Nevada later this month when Ngai & Liz come to OR. A big MAYBE and I Will keep you posted.

Correspondences from old friends: I heard from Fiona and several APM folks. I talked to Horace and he is doing great. I am grateful that he is still active and caring in my professional life. I think I will call him more often because he is my booster shot at work. His success as a happy papermaker inspires me, another reason for cheers!
I may go to Nevada later this month when Ngai & Liz come to OR. A big MAYBE and I Will keep you posted.
Hmm...Fried Children Oh, wait... I mean fried chicken. I miss grandma's signature honey wings so bad!!! Maybe I will get to eat them in May? Another big MAYBE.

Shut day!
I am going home...the machine should be productive again in another 5 hours.
Interesting things:
1. Saw Old Bob from Albany. He is coming back to the industry. Welcome and I was glad to see him!
2. heard from Horace about summer intern, the guy is always looking at ahead but I am not ready to mentor a student.
3. Starch boilout went well with my little secretive exitement. I liked my teammates: George/Ronnie/Larry and Mark. Thanks all.
4. Big screen TV in control room. We can watch netflix now!
5. Bud Mon is dealing with knee problem. Hope she is doing well.
6. Sylvia, Bud J and I will chill this weekend as X場 and we gonna party on saturday!It will be mahjong overload!

Don't really know who was attacking who viciously? The dog or the porcupine. Either way, I think the poor dog lost!
I got splashed and burned!
I got burned this morning by my nasty pal, NaOH! Relax, my face did not melt off, just the neck and upper chest were hit by the caustic splashes. I got some burn gel on shortly after and I feel ok!
I still have the tickling feeling (esp on my chin & cheek), probably because there were caustic residual on my green coat's collar and the face shield.
My hair got in contact with some unknown substance... they feel gross & coarse when they are dry and soapy when they are wet at the pony tail end.

H2O2 & NaOH are my new pals.
Later this month, I am going to an Arbitration meeting. My first one and I am told "not going to be my last one".
