So much of my inner work in this lifetime has revolved around trying to find the middle, that place between self - elevation and self - diminishment where real life happens. Perhaps you can relate. I grew up internatlizing two conflicting and untrue messages in my family of origin. The first, that of the devil child who is to blame for the family's suffering. The second, that of the great savior who will raise the family from the ashes of despair. As a result, I spent many years swinging back and forth between self- hatred and self - aggrandizement, neither of which are amenable to healthy functioning. The work for anyone with this pattern is to learn how to love themselves just as they are. Not perfect and not horrible, but simply and beautifully human. - Jeff Brown
